There\u2019s not so much we can say about the food. Since on one hand, we did our own shopping and cooking on the caravan and, on the other, we just happened to be there during Ramadan (the month when Muslims fast between sunrise through sunset). Therefore, the possibilities of finding open restaurants were quite limited. <\/p>\n

On the few occasions we ate out, the Kebab (a type of skewer) was recurrent in its different versions, especially chicken. As a side dish, a mountain of white rice became mandatory. It usually came adorned with a hint of yellow on top, we soon found out was saffron. Of course, there were other dishes in Farsi, which we could not understand, so we played it safe and stuck to the famous Kebab. <\/p>\n

We loved the yogurt cucumber sauce with the grated onion and mint either on top of the meat, as a salador a stand-alone dish.<\/p>\n

And we craved the Fereni: An amazing sweet creamy rice pudding with a touch of rose essence and how it took us back to our childhood; to when our mothers fed us bowls of \u2018arroz con leche\u2019 (rice and milk) for dinner!<\/p>\n

There was also a plant based drink made of Sysimbrium irio called Khakshir which we found super refreshing during those summer days.<\/p>\n

Mid country we ate something similar to the Mexican mole. Picture chunks of chicken seasoned with a dark sauce made of nuts and pomegranate, which was rather sweet than salty.<\/p>\n

And out on the road we won\u2019t forget the numerous vendors offering seasonal fruits: cherries, some soft and juicy green peaches, melons, watermelons\u2026<\/p>\n
