Exploring Iran\u2019s architecture was a delight. From mosques, historic houses, palaces and sanctuaries to underground cities, complete villages made out of adobe and all around tents of all styles and colors. The Iranians eat, talk, read, study and sleep on some carpet on the floor, always!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Not to be missed is the Golestan Palace in Tehran, the former residence of the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi until he was overthrown by Ayatollah and his Islamic revolution. Its amount of luxury is\u00a0jaw-dropping! If you find yourself in Tehran do not miss this jewel of the 16th century; containing contributions from posterior guests up until 1979.<\/p>\n

The 12 Historic Houses and the Hammam of Kashan are worth visiting as well with their huge wooden doors and their two bells: one for men, the other for women. Each with its unique shape and sound so that the inhabitants of the house knew which genre they would welcome next.<\/p>\n

Another amazing landmark is the underground city of Kashan discovered just over a decade ago. \u00a0We will tell you this:\u00a0 the 1,500-year-old site which back then hosted over 1200 is NOT fit for the common claustrophobic!<\/p>\n

Throughout Iran, you find mosques of all sizes which open three times a day for the sole purpose of prayer. \u00a0In addition, in all cities there are shrines, containing the tomb of some important person. These open 24 hours and are places of gathering to pray, eat, study and sleep!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In general, parks are remarkably well maintained and represent a very important part of the activities of the Iranian family. Open from 5pm until midnight, public parks are the cities\u2019 gyms and camping grounds. You find people pull up their tents just about anywhere or sleep on the floor next to their cars! Needless to say, in Iran you will find specialized camping equipment stores just about anywhere in the country!<\/p>\n
